The purpose of this wiki is to look at the different intelligences and find technology tools that can assist in assessing learning from students. Assessment is a big topic and tends to make people think of tests and exams. This wiki will attempt to show different ways of assessing knowledge within the different intelligences.
Howard Gardner was the first researcher to create the model of multiple intelligences in 1979. The publication "Frames of Mind" was published in 1983 and was the first real gathering of the theory. The premise of the theory is that there is not one type of intelligence but many types. He started with seven, has added an eighth and is currently considering a ninth. In the book Multiple Intelligences in the classroom by Armstrong he states:
"He (Gardner) seriously questioned the validity of determining intelligence through the practice of taking individuals out of their natural learning environment and asking them to do isolated tasks they'd neverdone before - and probably would never choose to do again. Instead, Gardner suggested that intelligence has more to do with the capacity for (1) Solving Problems (2) fashioning products in a context rich and naturalistic setting."
It is important to note:
each person has all eight intelligences but may not be to the same level as other people or the other intelligences.
most people can develop each intellignece to an adequeate level of competency.
Intelligences usually work together in complex ways. There are many ways to be intelligent within each category.
With the advent and availablity of technology tools, students can use their natural learning environment to learn and be assessed. This wiki will provide a collection of these tools.

Compose essays, poetry, etc. for publishing on web page, critique written resources through an annotated bibliography (hypertext)
Visual/Spatial
Construct thematic web pages that include various visual images (e.g., posters, political cartoons, broadsides, photos, illustrations), construct hyperlinked timelines and maps
Musical/Rhythmic
Analysis of song lyrics, composition of song lyrics, design and publish PowerPoint presentations which incorporate music and visual elements
Body/Kinesthetic
Internet based simulations, cooperative web searches or web quests, role playing activities that incorporate Web resources, classroom presentationsNaturalistDesign virtual landscapes, analyze computer simulated topographic battlefields, cities, maps, etc
